Welcome

Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club prides itself on its reputation as a welcoming and hospitable Private Members Club founded in 1900, boasting excellent facilities for members and visitors alike.

This County Championship Course is recognised for its natural beauty, spectacular views and its challenging qualities. The 5th and 13th holes are two of the best you will enjoy anywhere in the South of England. Although not excessive in length, this heath land course is more difficult than its length implies. There are some strong slopes and gradients, with gorse, tree and shrub lined fairways making accurate driving and careful club selection essential for successful scores.

After your round, sit back and enjoy the atmosphere of the spacious clubhouse, looking out from your elevated viewing point over the 9th, whilst sampling the renowned catering of Jan Boulter. Make sure you book ahead for Sunday lunch specials.

Whatever the size of your society, we aim to provide you with some good golfing and hospitality to match, making the day a memorable one for your members.

The Club does have a dress code standard that visitors must adhere to on the course and within the club house. We would ask that you download the dress standards and ensure that all your party are aware of what is required of them, as no exceptions will be tolerated.

Booking Arrangements

Our Society, or Corporate days are Monday, Thursday or Friday and arrangements are tailored to meet your individual requirements. This may be for a full day playing 27 or 36 holes, or for a half days play of 18 holes. Initial enquiries and a provisional booking can be made by telephoning Sarah Hammond on (01983) 404424, but bookings are only confirmed on receipt of the “Booking Form” and deposit.

To qualify for a Society Booking, including special tee reservations, we would anticipate a minimum of 12 members with a maximum of 36. Groups of more than 36 can be accommodated by special arrangement. Tee reservations will normally be planned to coincide with the Club’s normal tee rotation system. Other tee reservation times, however, may be necessary from time to time

Corporate or Company days can be arranged for groups in excess of 40 who wish to have exclusive use of the course. We will be pleased to discuss your requirements with you.

We look forward to seeing you at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club soon.

Guidelines for Societies / Companies

1. Society golf is offered as either a full days play of 27 or 36 holes, or a half-day of 18 holes (either morning or afternoon). On half days an afternoon booking will offer slightly better access, as the majority of our members tend to play in the morning.

2. Special tee closures will enable your society to play as a group. All tee reservations are planned to coincide with the Club’s normal tee rotation system. A copy of these starting times is shown below.

3. All tee closures are made on the understanding that the Society Package will include one main meal, either lunch or dinner. Four specially selected menus can be downloaded. Any one of these menus may be booked for either lunch or dinner. Special arrangements can also be made for breakfast, sandwiches, ploughmans or afternoon tea.

4. Play will be from the yellow markers, within the tee times stated on your booking confirmation. Play may be 2 balls, 3 balls or Foursomes in the morning and Greensomes or Foursomes in the afternoon.

5. All members of visiting Societies should hold a current Club handicap certificate, which must be produced if required. All Society members wishing to play golf should be in current practice and be capable of playing 9 holes of golf to a reasonable standard, in an hour and three quarters. The course is not suitable for beginners or non-golfers. Any society members who the Manager, or Club Professional, feels cannot meet these requirements may be asked to leave the course.

6. The Clubhouse is normally open from 07.30 hours and the Professional Shop from 08.00. The Club Secretary/Manager, Andy Creed, and our PGA Professional, Peter Hammond, are available to assist in the smooth running of your day. They can be contacted on the telephone numbers listed on the booking form or our contact page. On arrival your Society organiser must contact Sarah or Peter Hammond, in the Pro Shop, or in his absence, Andy Creed.

7. The Pro Shop, run by our resident PGA Professional, Peter Hammond, stocks a wide range of golfing equipment and clothing. He can also assist you with club repairs, provide prizes at competitive rates as well as lessons by prior arrangement. Wide wheeled trolleys only are permitted on the course, and these can be hired from the shop at a cost of £2-50 each. Privately owned buggies are not permitted.

8. Mobile telephones are not allowed on the course or in the Clubhouse (except in an emergency)

9. Visitors are asked not to leave valuables or money in the changing rooms but to take advantage of the secure lockers available for a small charge in our newly refurbished locker rooms. Society members should exercise all possible care to safeguard their personal property, as the Club is unable to accept any responsibility whatever for any loss, theft or damage howsoever caused.

10. It may be necessary, due to climatic or other conditions, to play to temporary greens, or to temporarily alter the course layout. In the event that these conditions prevail on the day of your visit the Club may, at its discretion, reduce the green fees paid.

11. Due to high demand for play at SSGC, particularly in the summer months, it may be necessary for you to share your day with another Society.

12. Dress Rules. Always a very emotive subject but they are considered necessary to maintain proper standards, on the course, and in the Clubhouse. A copy of our dress rules is shown below and we ask you to make all your members aware of them.

Dress Code
The Club Membership requires that an acceptable standard of dress be maintained both on the Course and in the Clubhouse.

· Gentlemen may wear tailored shorts on the Course and in the Clubhouse, the latter between April 1st and September 30th, providing that long hose or predominantly white sports socks (trainer or sportlet socks are not appropriate) are also worn. Shirts must be tucked into trousers or shorts at all times.

· Baseball style caps and any other form of headwear must be worn with the peak forward. No form of headgear will be permitted inside the Clubhouse.

· Blue denim jeans/skirts and jackets, T-shirts, vests, halter tops, beachwear, track suits (or similar), trainers and plimsolls (or similar) are not allowed.

· Mud should be cleaned from golf shoes before entering the changing rooms or Spike Bar. No golf shoes of any kind are permitted in the upstairs entrance hall or the main part of the Clubhouse.

· Although not mandatory, it is appreciated if members and visitors change into a Jacket and Tie for prize giving after major golf events. These are necessary for match dinners.

The Secretary/Manager, Steward, Professional or any Committee Member is the arbiter of what is acceptable and you will need to conform with any request to change.
